IAS faculty member Alka Kurian published a co-edited book New Feminisms in South Asia: Disrupting the Discourse Through Social Media, Film, and Literature (Routledge, 2017). This book is a study of the resurgence and re-imagination of new feminist discourse on gender and sexuality in South Asia as told through its cinematic, literary, and social media narratives. Her artist book Mythical Magical Physickal Madness was included in the Heroic Works exhibition at University of Oxford’s Bodleian Libraries last summer. Grewal and Huston discuss their careers in mental health and sustainable agriculture
Alums Jasleena Grewal and Aaron Huston met with IAS students to share their career journeys and how they leveraged their time at UW Bothell. Grewal (’13, Environmental Science) is currently working on a psychiatric nurse practitioner degree at Seattle University and is a freelance journalist writing about art, culture, and social justice. Huston (’13, Environmental Studies and Global Studies) is co-owner of Farmstand Local Foods, which supports economically and environmentally sustainable food systems by facilitating connections between local producers and consumers.

Martha Groom named “Super Mentor”
IAS faculty member Martha Groom was named a "Super Mentor" at the 真人线上娱乐 Conference for Conservation Science - New York in recognition of her many years of service giving career and project advice to young conservationists at the three day conference each year. Amaranth Borsuk speaks and reads on the east coast
IAS faculty member Amaranth Borsuk traveled to Temple University in Philadelphia last week to give a lecture as part of the Poets & Writers Series at the Tyler School of Art's gallery, Temple Contemporary. Her talk, "Poetic Mutations and Digital Mediations," traced her interest in the book as a transforming object across her scholarly and creative practice.
